About Bagan Archaeological Zone
Some 2,200 11th to 13th century ruins out of the once 10,000 strong remain standing today in Bagan. These consist of temples, pagodas and stupas, spread out over a huge area of land. Some have been beautifully renovated, and others are true ruins, almost camouflaged entirely by grass and brambles. Together, as one huge archeological area, the Bagan ruins are simply breathtaking, and can be explored from the ground, but we highly recommend viewing them from above in the basket of a hot air balloon.
