About Byron Bay

From its somewhat humble roots as a whaling town, turned hippie and surfer haven of the 80s, Byron Bay has in recent years transformed itself into Australia’s most upmarket beach town. It’s many health conscious cafés and restaurants, boutiques and general boho vibe regularly attract celebrities, bankers and property tycoons to the town - many of whom have built luxury properties here. The local scene is a real melting pot of nationalities, all drawn here by the town’s very special vibe and incredible natural scenery. An unfortunate consequence of the town’s celebrity status however is the relative high cost - everything from a humble flat white to a basic hotel room costs more than almost anywhere else in Australia. Peak periods are the most hectic to visit the town - with lengthy restaurant queues and traffic-choked streets causing chaos in the small town centre.
