About Eastern Province

With old conflicts now resolved, the east coast of Sri Lanka has opened up to tourism, and it is flourishing. The coastline is blissfully undeveloped and there are still only a handful of luxury hotels dotting the shoreline - making for the perfect destination to get away from it all. The east coast’s weather is the opposite to that of the west, and so April - October is the ideal time to visit this part of the island. The area is known for its water based activities - Pigeon Island National Park is one of the best dive spots in Asia, famed for its colourful coral reefs, reef sharks and turtles. Laid-back Arugam Bay is a world-class surfing beach, and huge pods of dolphins and even whales can be spotted just offshore from the area’s beaches.
