The city that never sleeps, The Big Apple, Gotham . . . New York has many nicknames - testament to the immense history and character of the place. Immediately upon arriving on Manhattan Island, visitors are often struck by familiarity of the place, thanks to the city’s starring role in so many TV shows and movies. This, along with the very helpful grid map system renders the city incredibly easy to navigate, which in turn makes visitors feel right at home.
New York City is a melting pot of fantastic restaurants serving every cuisine imaginable, as well as some of the world’s most fabulous cocktail bars and speakeasies. As a result, the city is a particularly wonderful destination for adults, but children won’t be disappointed by the many parks, toy shops, museums and kids friendly restaurants on offer here. Speaking of museums, NOMA, The Met and Guggenheim provide some of the world’s most impressive art collections and must not be missed. Culture lovers will also be impressed by the quality of plays and musicals on Broadway, the current favourite is Hamilton. For shopaholics, the city has a staggering selection of boutiques and department stores, and during the sale periods, phenomenal bargains can be picked up. Finally, for sports fans, New York is the home of the New York Giants and Jets for NFL, Yankees and Mets for baseball, and Knicks for basketball.
