About Northland & Bay of Islands
The subtropical Northland region of New Zealand stretches upwards from Auckland to the very top of New Zealand. The area is a story of two coastlines - the west coast, which is rugged and soulful, and the east coast, which is considered more sophisticated and urbane. In the beautiful Bay of Islands, we recommend taking a boat out for the day, going dolphin spotting, diving, fishing or simply relaxing on one of the many stunning beaches. We also recommend a visit to Waitangi Treaty Grounds, one of New Zealand’s most significant historic sites.
Best Time to Visit
The ideal time to visit the Bay of Islands are during the spring months of September - November. These are known as the 'magical' months. December - February is also great at the weather is warm with very limited rainfall. It is however peak season in the Bay of Islands during that time so can get a little busy with visitors.
