About Provence and the Côte d’Azur

It wasn’t just the natural beauty of this mesmerising area of France that drew the likes of Renoir, Cézanne and Picasso to Provence: it was the light that really hooked them. A dappled light which shone generously yet softly upon the fields of lavender, ancient olive groves and meandering clifftop roads. This is an area so beautiful, words can hardly describe it, hence so many had to paint it. A holiday here can be super glam in the Mediterranean hot-spots of Saint-Tropez, Antibes or St Jean Cap Ferrat, or it can be an utterly blissful rural escape in the Luberon or the hills around Grasse. Food is taken exceptionally seriously here, with fish and shellfish playing a major part. Make sure to try a Bouillabaisse if in or around Marseille!
