Angkor Wat International Half Marathon

4-7 December 2020 - Siem Reap, Cambodia

The Angkor Wat International Half Marathon is undoubtedly one of the world’s most impressive races, with a course that takes runners through the UNESCO World Heritage Angkor Wat temple complex. Not only does the event have a truly unique location, it is also for a good cause. Entry fee proceeds have raised relief for victims of antipersonnel mines in Cambodia since the race’s infancy in 1996. Today, the event continues to support a ban on the manufacture and inhumane use of land mines, but additionally provides funding for local children’s hospitals and disease prevention programmes.

Travel by Timothy Oulton has designed a winning itinerary for a weekend filled with culture, endurance and pampering.

4th December

Upon arrival at Siem Reap International Airport, guests will be greeted at the gate and whisked through immigration and security as a VIP - no queues, thank you! Your driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall to take you on the short 15 minute drive to Phum Baitang, your accommodation for the next three nights. Upon entering the hotel’s gates, the property’s lush green gardens and verdant paddy fields provide an enticing contrast to the dusty roads on the outside. After a swift check in process, you will be shown to your Terrace or Pool Villa and the rest of the day is yours to unwind and relax.

This evening, we highly recommend guests head to the hotel’s cocktail bar for a sunset drink. This is truly one of the most beautiful cocktail bars in the world, and you may never want to leave once sitting comfortably on one of the oversized armchairs on the terrace, cocktail in hand, admiring the sights and sounds of the sun setting behind the paddy fields.

As an option this evening, we can arrange an amazing private dinner at an exquisite country house, or alternatively on an upcycled traditional river boat. Please see below and enquire for details.

5th December

This morning, we have arranged a private tour of the temples for you. The intricacies of each of the temples are just mind-boggling and it is really worth having a guide to explain the history and stories behind these incredible feats of architecture. Most tours start before sunrise in order to capture the moment when the sun rises above Angkor Wat. As the marathon starts so early the following day however, we can arrange for a later start when the crowds have dispersed.

All competitors need to sign in for the race today, and we recommend doing this on your way back from the temple visit. Your car and driver will then bring you back to the hotel, and the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure.

6th December

It’s an early start today as the race begins at 5:30am (or 6am for the 10km). A breakfast pack will be delivered to your room at the same time as your wake up call, providing some much required energy for the race ahead. At around 4:45am, you will be taken by tuk tuk to the start of the race. The same tuck tuk will be waiting at the finish to take your weary legs back to the hotel for a very well deserved hearty breakfast.

As a well deserved treat, we have arranged a massage for two today, and you may each choose from a leg and foot massage - specially designed to ease the aches and pains from the race, or a traditional full body Swedish massage instead. What better way to relax after this morning’s incredible achievement!

This evening, you may well wish to have a quiet night in the hotel, but if you rather have one final adventure in Siem Reap, we would be delighted to arrange a food tour of the city (if you dare!) or alternatively one of the options listed on Day One. Details of all can be found below.

7th December

Your onward flight back to Hong Kong departs at 11:20am so you have time to indulge in a big breakfast before departing in your private car to the airport.
